PASIC 2003
In 2002, the drumset committee for the Percussive Arts Society decided to do something for their upcoming convention that they'd never done before. PASIC 2003 would be the first convention to offer a series of clinics that focused only on the topic of hand technique. They called it the "Hand Development Series". It would be three one hour clinics, with each clinic featuring a different clinician each day.
The Hand Development Series Clinicians — PASIC 2003
Jim Chapin — Day One

Joe Morello — Day Two
Former student of George Lawrence Stone, Billy Gladstone, and Sanford Moeller. World reknown, award winning jazz drummer for the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Master technician and author of Rudimental Jazz and Master Studies I & II.
Gordy Knudtson — Day Three
Author — The Open/Close Technique Books One & Two.
After Gordy's presentation on day three, Joe Morello said: "I'm so glad you did this! When I was studying with Billy Gladstone in the 1950's he was messing around with this technique, but he never documented it. You did a great job of explaining it and I think you took it farther than he did!"
